iSpark Idea and Prototype Competition 


The iSpark Idea and Prototype Competition – Final Competition was held on 9 May 2023. The event was graced by Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UMT and Assoc Prof Dr Loke Chui Fung, Vice President, TAR UMT.

Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) proudly organized and hosted the iSpark Idea and Prototype Competition 2024, from 03 May to 17 May 2024, with an exhilarating finale on 24 May 2024. The event took place at the university's premises, drawing a diverse group of participants from various faculties and departments, each eager to showcase their innovative ideas.


This year's competition brought together aspiring entrepreneurs and established academicians to a platform where innovation met practicality and commercial viability. The event aimed to nurture the entrepreneurial spirit within the TAR UMT community and provide a stage for potential market-leading innovations to be recognized.


Participants competed fiercely over a span of three weeks, presenting their prototypes and ideas not just to their peers but to a discerning panel of judges consisting of industry leaders, venture capitalists, and academic professionals. The competition was marked by a series of engaging presentations, rigorous questioning by judges, and networking sessions that provided valuable industry insights and feedback to the participants.


The climax of the competition on 24 May saw the announcement of the winners. The first prize, accompanied by a cash award of RM 3,000 and a certificate, was clinched by a groundbreaking project that promised significant impact. The second prize of RM 2,500 and a certificate went to another innovative team, while the third prize of RM 2,000 and a certificate was also warmly received. Additionally, ten consolation prizes, each consisting of RM 300 and a certificate, were awarded to other deserving entries.


The iSpark Idea and Prototype Competition 2024 not only highlighted the inventive potential within TAR UMT but also underscored the university's commitment to fostering an environment where academic theories and visions can transition into real-world applications. This initiative is a cornerstone in TAR UMT's ongoing efforts to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among its students and alumni.
